Creating Your Own Luck

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” -Seneca

MOMENTS OF MASTERY

Around this time of year, we often hear people talking about luck.

But in leadership... and in life... what we call “luck” is rarely accidental.

More often, it’s the result of mindset, intention, and the energy we bring to each moment. Leaders who appear “lucky” tend to share something in common: they approach each day with clarity, presence, and a deep sense of purpose.

When you cultivate authentic happiness and alignment internally, opportunities begin to reveal themselves in ways that might once have seemed like luck.

In reality, you’re simply operating from a different level of awareness.

Here are seven practices that help create the conditions where opportunity (and yes, even “luck") can thrive.

The Lucky Seven for Leaders

1. Keep your internal reserves full

Leadership requires energy. When you consistently invest in the activities and relationships that replenish you, you lead with greater clarity, resilience, and creativity.

2. Stay present

The most effective leaders are fully engaged in the moment. Presence sharpens perception and allows you to recognize opportunities others might miss.

3. Practice intentional gratitude

Gratitude shifts perspective. When you consciously acknowledge what is working—within your team, your organization, and your life—you cultivate an environment where momentum builds naturally.

4. Maintain composure

What distinguishes exceptional leaders is their ability to remain steady, calm, and thoughtful even when circumstances are uncertain.

5. Make space for joy

High performance and joy are not mutually exclusive. In fact, teams led by people who value positive energy, connection, and celebration tend to be more innovative and resilient.

6. Choose your words carefully

Language shapes culture. The words you use—with your team and with yourself—reinforce either possibility or limitation.

7. Expect great outcomes

Expectations influence results. Leaders who approach each day anticipating progress and possibility tend to notice opportunities sooner—and act on them with confidence.

When practiced consistently, these habits begin to compound.

You start each day clear, calm, and energized. Decisions become easier. Relationships deepen. Opportunities appear more frequently.

From the outside, it may look like luck.

But in truth, it’s the natural result of intentional leadership and a mindset aligned with possibility.

And when leaders operate from that place, extraordinary things tend to follow.

Wishing you a week of clarity, calm, fortune and FUN!
