What Makes You Feel Alive?

“You don’t see the world as it is, you see it as you are.” — Anaïs Nin

MOMENTS OF MASTERY

What Makes You Feel Alive? It is not a question most leaders are asked often. But it may be one of the most important.

In high-performing environments, the focus is typically on outcomes. Strategy. Execution. Results.

All of which matter.

But there is a more immediate driver of both performance and fulfillment that often goes unexamined: How you are experiencing your life, moment to moment.

Because the truth is, your life and leadership are not lived in some future milestone. They are lived in real time.

Right now.

The quality of your focus, your energy, and your internal state in this moment directly shapes how you think, lead, and perform.

The most effective leaders understand that sustainable success is not only built on what they do, but on how they show up while doing it.

So consider this:

What makes you feel fully engaged, present, and alive in your work and your life?

And just as important:

Are you allowing yourself to access that state consistently?

A simple but powerful practice is to bring intentional awareness into each moment, grounded in gratitude and clarity.

This is not about slowing down or stepping away from ambition. It is about operating with greater precision and alignment.

When your attention is anchored in the present, you think more clearly.

You respond rather than react.

You lead with intention rather than pressure.

Neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett writes in How Emotions Are Made:

“You construct your environment, your reality, by what your brain chooses to focus on.”

For leaders, this has direct implications.

Your experience of pressure, opportunity, and success is not only determined by external circumstances. It is shaped by what you consistently choose to focus on and reinforce.

So the question becomes: What are you amplifying, moment to moment?

Every thought.

Every interaction.

Every decision.

They all contribute to the environment you are creating, both internally and externally.

When you intentionally cultivate presence, gratitude, and a sense of engagement, you access a higher level of performance.

You are more focused.

More composed.

More effective.

And importantly, you feel more connected to your work and your life.

More alive.

This is not accidental.

It is a discipline.

A simple daily anchor:

“I am calm, focused, and fully present. I lead with clarity, gratitude, and intention.”

Use this as a reset point throughout your day.

Before key conversations.

In moments of pressure.

At the start and close of your day.

Over time, this becomes a powerful internal framework that supports both high performance and meaningful fulfillment.

Wishing you a week of presence, purpose, and moments that that make you feel truly alive.
